I purchased a TP-Link Archer T4U AC1200 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter (Archer T4U V1) off of FleaBAY and finally got it working on Linux.
It seems that the first driver for the rtl8812 that I found would NOT compile under the linux kernel 4.16.13 which I am using on my Fedora 28 workstation. I cant remember what it was, but there was some function that the compile was barfing on. I searched and finally found a driver that works at: https://github.com/abperiasamy/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux
Just git clone that baby and it should compile fine. Follow the compile/install instructions on that page.
